In our trials, over 90% of the off-grid households who tried GravityLight said they would use it instead of a kerosene lamp.
They also shared invaluable feedback on what needed improving before we could launch GravityLight.
The key insights we learned about GL01 were:
1. Women and children struggled to lift the weight to its full height– we needed to make GravityLight easier to use, for all members of the family.
2. People wanted a brighter light – we needed to make efficiency gains in the design and choice of components.
3. Children used the bag as a swing, causing breakages – GravityLight needed to be even more robust and protect against misuse.
4. The product needed to last longer – points of failure had to be addressed and accelerated life testing carried out to ensure the next model could offer at least a 1 year warranty.
These insights have been driving the development of GL02 since.
