Our Approach to Distribution

We also want to create local jobs, skills and livelihoods for those who sell GravityLights.

Instead of using the ‘buy-one-give-one’ charity model, which is where for every product sold in the Global North a free unit is donated to those in the Global South, we aim to create jobs and help people earn an income through GravityLight.

Whilst we always applaud those with charitable intentions, the ‘buy-one-give-one’ method is not an approach that we advocate:

  • The buy-one-give-one model is an archetype for that classic aid mistake of giving fish, rather than training fisherman.
  • Buy-one-give-one can also act as an economic bomb to any local industry that may have existed prior to the introduction of free alternatives, destroying local businesses and livelihoods in areas where earning potential is already fraught and fragile.

Instead, we are working through local distribution partners and sales agents, meaning that people can earn a living through selling GravityLights and similar products. Rather than undermining the local economy by giving away free products, we are able to create jobs and help people earn an income through GravityLight.
