We want GravityLight to be an empowering product in every sense of the word. We aim to create local jobs, skills and livelihoods in the heart of the communities that will be using GravityLight. To underline our commitment to this objective, we have decided to assemble GravityLight in Kenya.
Kenya is the primary launch market for GravityLight. We hope that by establishing our assembly line in country, The GravityLight Foundation can play a substantial part in supporting the development of local skills as well as contributing towards economic growth through the creation of new jobs.
In terms of logistics, Mombasa port, on the coast of Kenya, is a key international shipping hub. This means that it has the infrastructure to cope with international shipments from suppliers of GravityLight components. Kenya also represents a gateway to the rest of East Africa and has an emerging manufacturing industry, which we hope to help develop and grow. We have found a fantastic, like-minded partner to work with in Kenya: Burn Cookstove Manufacturers.
